The South Orange Village Water Utility consists of more than 70 miles of main that deliver approximately 2.5 million gallons of water per day to South Orange’s more than 16,000 residents. The system contains three water storage tanks; the South Orange Avenue Main Reservoir, the Crest Drive Storage Tank, and the Brentwood Watersphere, which hold a combined total of 3.7 million gallons.
The Village owns one well for water production, Well #17 in Grove Park, which produces approximately 300 thousand gallons per day. The remainder of the Village’s water supply is purchased from New Jersey American Water who also supplies Maplewood and West Orange. The vast majority of water delivered by New Jersey American Water is treated at their new, state-of-the-art Canoe Brook Water Treatment Plant in Millburn, NJ. The Village also maintains emergency water supply interconnections with New Jersey American Water, the City of Newark, and the East Orange Water Commission.
American Water Operations and Maintenance Inc. (AW O&M), a sister company of New Jersey American Water, took over day-to-day operations, maintenance, customer service, billing, and collections responsibility for the Village water system on January 1, 2017.
Call center hours of operation will be 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. for questions related to your bill, to schedule a service visit, or to set up an appointment to turn your water service on or off or reactivate your water service if it’s shut off for non-payment.
For Emergencies: Customers can call the toll-free number after hours, weekends and holidays for water emergency purposes only, such as main breaks, water quality issues, service outages and leaks.
