Other important key points to remember when it comes to
Electric Bicycles and Scooters:
If you are in violation of a Title 39 offense while riding your bicycle, E-Bike, or scooter and you are struck by a moving vehicle or you strike a pedestrian, you may be found at fault pending investigation.
For an overwhelming majority of bicycle complaints, the average age for offenders is under 18. Although the police interact and educate the juveniles, it is the responsibility of the parents to ensure their children have proper needs when riding their bicycles, for example helmets, lights, reflectors, etc. It is also important, as a parent, to ensure that the bicycle/E-Bike your child is riding is not only within the standards for the law, but most importantly safe for the child. A summons may be issued if found in any violation of the law and fines can range from $10 to $2,000 for a single violation.
All bicycles, E-Bikes, or scooters that are crossing within a crosswalk need to be walked across per Title 39.
