Safe Streets 4 All
Project Overview
The South Orange Safe Streets for All (SS4A) Action Plan aims to reduce the number of roadway fatalities and serious injuries within South Orange Village. The plan will enhance the safety, mobility, and quality of life for all roadway users, especially vulnerable road users such as bicyclists, pedestrians, and people of all ages and abilities. It also promotes a data-driven and community-led approach to improving safety, access, and quality of life.
The SS4A Action Plan project will:
Identify Problem Areas: Use data and community feedback to identify safety concerns and pinpoint the spots in South Orange where crashes are most likely to happen.
Listen to the Community: Gather ideas and feedback from residents and stakeholders in an open, inclusive way.
Set Priorities: Identify the most critical streets and intersections, then recommend safety projects using the Safe Systems Approach.
Support Equity: Make sure safety improvements reach underserved neighborhoods and protect vulnerable road users, including walkers, cyclists, youth, the elderly, and individuals with disabilities.
Shape Policy: Recommend programs and policies that keep safety at the center of the town’s decision-making, services, and operations.
Advisory Committee
An Advisory Committee was created to support the project team and ensure the collaboration of Village departments, regional agencies, and community groups to help develop a vision for the SS4A Action Plan. The Action Plan Advisory Committee (APAC) will meet three times throughout the planning process, offering background documentation, insights into local conditions, and feedback on draft strategy recommendations.
