Hope in a Time of Anxiety

4) Hope in a Time of Anxiety

Come together as a community to name our anxieties and share our hopes for the future by writing them on the wall, then joining in the coloring of a meditative mandala mural to bring us all together to reduce anxiety and realize our hopes as a community.

Mandala is a spiritual symbol in Hinduism and Buddhism representing the universe. The circular design symbolizes the idea that life is never-ending and everything is connected. Coloring mandalas helps to reduce stress and anxiety and allows everyone to be creative, which often gets lost in our daily lives and stresses.

5) Save the Date, November 2&3 for the 16th Annual SOMA Artists Studio Tour

This community-supported event provides visitors an annual look at the vibrant and dynamic art scene in our towns. With over 70 emerging, mid-career, and established artists many of whom are new to the tour this year, and special group exhibitions, tour goers have the perfect opportunity view art, talk with artists, and start or grow an art collection or their own. Most artists offer works for sale in a variety of price ranges, perfect for both the casual and serious collector. As a special treat, this year two local art collectors are opening their homes to tour goers. Pat Bell’s edgy collection, well known for its focus on the art of the now, will feature local artist Luis Alves Collage. Artist Judy Targan will show her own work in her studio, while at the same time her beautiful collection of contemporary American art will be on view in her home. Artist studios and group venues are open from 11AM to 5PM each day, and special exhibitions will be located throughout South Orange and Maplewood.
