election day

Election Day

Remember to get out and vote on Tuesday!
You can find your polling location here. Polls will be open from 6 am until 8 pm.

In this year’s Municipal Election there are two (2) candidates seeking election to the Office of Village President; and nine (9) candidates seeking election to three (3) seats on the Village’s Board of Trustees.  Candidates have been placed into four (4) different lines (A through D).  As an informed voter, please always be aware that you are allowed to vote for anyone on the ballot regardless of where they may be on the ballot and a vote for a candidate on a particular line does not obligate a voter to vote for every candidate on the same line.

Conversations on Race

On Wednesday, May 15, CCR will be holding their Conversations on Race at Seton Hall University Center, Chancellor Suite 400 at 7:30 pm. This year’s conversation will be led by Dr. Nell Irvin Painter, professor emerita at Princeton and author of New York Times bestseller The History of White People in which she discusses both the invention of race and also the frequent praise of “whiteness” for economic, scientific, and political ends. This event is free and open to the public but please RSVP on the events page.

SOMA Treasure Hunt

Saturday May 18, 9 am-3 pm with a rain date on May 19th. Participating households (Yard Sailers) throughout South Orange and Maplewood will be listed on the big SOMA treasure map, receive a festive themed yard sale sign, and treasure seeker clues to hand out that lead to freebies at local businesses, snacks in town, and perhaps some exciting larger prizes too. Donations will go to MEND, a network of food pantries in Essex County that includes The Food Pantry at Our Lady of Sorrows in SO, and St. Joseph's in Maplewood.
