Here you will receive weekly updates about all the important and fun events in town! The South Orange Weekly Digest comes out every Monday morning to give readers on the go all the information they need at their fingertips to stay engaged.

DPW Pickup Events

Tuesday, Aug 21 South Orange residents can schedule a Metal Pickup for up to six items for a $75 fee. This pickup will not include electronic or household furniture; it is only for metal items.

Thursday, Aug 23 residents of the Village can schedule a Household Bulk Pickup for up to six items for a $75 fee. This pickup will not include electronic or metal items.

An appointment must be scheduled and paid in advance with DPW by check only. Please allow six to eight weeks from the time of your call for an available appointment date.

Container Day

CONTAIN YOURSELF SOUTH ORANGE RESIDENTS AND PREPARE FOR CONTAINER DAY! This Saturday, Aug 25th from 8:00 AM until 1:30 PM, DPW will allow residents to drop off household bulk items at the Public Works facility at 300 Walton Ave. Proof of residency is required and commercial vehicles such as U-Haul’s/Home Depot rental vans will not be allowed on the property and electronics, construction material, and hazardous waste will not be accepted.

Playin’ Around South Orange

Starting this Saturday, August 25th and going until October 7th is the annual Playin’ Around South Orange event! Going into its sixth year, Playin’ Around South Orange was created to enhance residents' lives with spontaneous music and to bring about that great South Orange community attitude that we all know so well. These beautiful, hand-painted pianos can be spotted at five separate spots, Spiotta Park, Irvington, W. Fairview Avenue, The Village Service Center on South Orange Avenue, and the Sloan Street Gazebo. Some of the musicians who will be performing are Theo Walentiny, Campbell Charshee of Mark Murphy Music, Mark Madonna, and Patricia Brady-Danzig. This event should be super fun and an amazing event that will bring joy to everyone in the community.

South Orange Public Library

Today is Celebrate Reading Day at SOPL! There is a Knitting Social at 1:30 PM and Ruby the Library Dog’s Birt hday Party at 2:30. At 4:30, Chef Jesse Gives Back: South Orange’s own Chef Jesse demonstrates some cooking techniques. The day of celebration wraps up at 7:00 PM with Maria Priadka School of Dance’s Interactive Performance.

Road Work Around Town

Curb, sidewalk & drainage work is planned to start the week of August 20^th on Tichenor Ave. The work will be from 7 AM to 4 PM and is planned to take 2 months, weather permitting.

If you need to park overnight on the roadway, please contact the South Orange Police Department at 973-763-3000 or the Parking Authority at 973-378-7715 x2037 and inform them that there is roadwork on your street.
