County Safe Streets Plan MeetingSOMa residents are invited to a community meeting next Monday for the Essex County Safe Streets Action Plan! Following a short presentation, share your feedback via online or paper survey. Help Essex County create a plan to improve pedestrian, bicycling, and traffic safety in SOMa and throughout the county! Can't make the meeting? Fill out the county's online survey at bit.ly/essex-ss4a by March 31 to share your concerns and ideas using an interactive map. South Orange will also seek community input later in the year to develop a South Orange-specific Safe Streets Plan. This meeting will be held in-person on March 17 at 7:30 PM at The Loft at the Baird and available virtually with the meeting link.

CCR EventsDeconstructing Racism Workshop Part II- Mondays throughout March @ CHS, 7-9 pm Discussions on how white supremacist ideology has impacted people of color and how it has negatively impacted white people, limiting our nation’s evolution and advancement. Then we’ll focus on the various ways white supremacy, and its affiliated racism, can be disrupted and deconstructed through individual, group, government and national endeavors.

Open Space Trust Fund Proposed Increase South Orange Village is considering a referendum to increase the Open Space Tax Levy to support the preservation and enhancement of parks, recreational facilities, and natural areas. We invite you to share your thoughts and learn more about how this effort will help maintain and enhance our open spaces for future generations. Our first Town Hall will be held on Tuesday, March 25, 7PM, Baird Community Center's Stage & Screen Room.

Public Works Events Metal Pickup: Tuesday, March 18 DPW will pickup metal recyclables for residents who have prescheduled and paid for this service. There is 6 item limit for this pickup. Metal Pickup Form Household Bulk Pickup: Thursday, March 20 DPW will collect household bulk items with the exception of metal and electronics for residents who have prescheduled and paid for this service. There is 6 item limit for this pickup. Bulk Pickup Form Electronic Recycling: Saturday, March 22; 8 AM-noon South Orange and Maplewood residents are welcome to access the recycling facility at 300 Walton Ave to dispose of e-waste (electronic) items.
