Pride Month

Untitled design (1)

Pride Month is celebrated every June in tribute to those involved in the Stonewall Riots, and we’re getting ready to dust off our rainbow flags, douse ourselves in glitter, and go join in the fun. With parades, festivals and concerts going on across the globe, there’s always some way for you to get involved — as well as learn some important social history along the way.

Join us here in SOMA as we celebrate Pride 2021 with a month of activities and celebrations. From poetry readings and educational opportunities to family picnics and Drag Queen Bingo, SOMA organizations and community members have partnered to create a memorable month for all.

Scroll down for a list of all South Orange events and visit for a list of those events happening in Maplewood and other communities. Check back as more events will be listed throughout the month of June.

BROTHER OUTSIDER: THE LIFE OF BAYARD RUSTIN                       - with a Q&A following the movie

Since its premiere at the Sundance Film Festival and national broadcasts on PBS and Logo, BROTHER OUTSIDER has introduced millions of viewers around the world to the life and work of Bayard Rustin — a visionary strategist and activist who has been called “the unknown hero” of the civil rights movement. A disciple of Gandhi, a mentor to Martin Luther King Jr., and the architect of the 1963 March on Washington, Rustin dared to live as an openly gay man during the fiercely homophobic 1940s, 1950s and 1960s.

This very special Q&A will include the film's co-director, Bennett Singer, and Bayard Rustin's partner, Walter Naegle, Robt Seda-Schreiber, Chief Activist, Bayard Rustin Center for Social Justice and the Q&A will be moderated by Audrey Rowe from the Community Coalition on Race, with other special guests.
