Crime Alert / Theft from Autos

The South Orange Police Department would like to advise area residents of a recent rash of thefts from unlocked parked vehicles which have been occurring in South Orange as well as in neighboring towns.
These thefts have been occurring roughly between the hours of 2 am and 5am. The suspects are entering unlocked vehicles parked in the driveways of residences and removing valuables from the interiors of same. It appears the suspects are looking for GPS systems along with other items that can be carried off. The incidents are occurring on the west side of town in the vicinity of Wyoming Ave / Ridgewood Rd and the neighboring streets.
In some instances, witnesses have observed suspicious activity but did not come forward until hours later. If you notice suspicious activity at any time you should immediately contact the South Orange Police Department at (973) 763-3000 x 0 or for emergencies such as a crime in progress dial 9-1-1.
The South Orange Police Department would like to remind all residents of the fact that your vehicles and valuables should be secured at all times. Additional lighting such as motion sensor lights and auto alarms will always remain beneficial in the fight against crime.
