Schedule: M-F, 5-6 hours per day, may be required to work after hours.

1. Summary
Position provides support for Village technology related activities. Provide routine desktop and user trouble shooting and repair; participates in the maintenance and monitoring of servers and shared technologies; performs other duties as assigned by management.
Work is performed under general supervision.

2. Supervisory Responsibilities

Position does not have supervisory responsibilities.

3. Physical Demands and Working Conditions

-Must be agile enough to get behind and under office furnishings.

-Must be able to move and carry up to 50 pounds.

4. Essential Functions

The duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related or a logical assignment to this position.

- Collect and maintain documentation regarding systems and software deployment and operational status. Along with other systems & software documentation as deemed necessary by the IT Manager.

- Facilitation of the deployment of hardware & software elements to any systems having been widely deployed within the Village.

- Interact with all Village user groups to assist in the use and set up of computers, telephones, printers, faxes and other technologies at all sites as defined by the Village IT Manager.

- Assist the users with detailed knowledge of the usage of client email and office software products such as to facilitate enhanced productivity and security. Provide training as appropriate.

- Desktop systems support for the installed Windows platforms;

• Including installation of licensed software on employee workstations with appropriate configurations in compliance to Village IT policies.

• Conducting routine operational maintenance.

• Providing basic hardware support and making minor PC repairs.

- Regularly screen for and correct issues arising from viruses and spyware.

- Troubleshooting printers and printing problems, including diagnosis and recommendation of replacement if necessary.

- Participate in the support of the existing server infrastructure and the telephony system as the backup individual.

- Aid in making network infrastructure changes and deployment including modifications to existing Village Local Networks and WAN links.

- Assist in the rollout of audio-visual solutions working with the IT Manager. Provide support after implementation.

- Provide any other support at the desktop and client level so as to maintain an effective, reliable and secure Village technology environment as directed by the Village IT Manager. This will include applying and monitoring software & security patches.

- Performs additional duties as assigned by management.


5. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

- Thorough working knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite, Windows XP, Windows 7, Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome browsers , anti-virus and anti-malware tools.

- Working knowledge of Police technologies, applications and CAD systems; along with a demonstrated understanding of the details of the operational user structure of Police software systems is a plus.

- Working knowledge of support of Microsoft Windows Servers in a domain environment.

- Working knowledge of how printers work in a Windows environment.

- Working knowledge of audio visual presentation systems.

- Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills.

- Ability to organize and perform work independently.

- Ability to handle multiple competing tasks and demands.

- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, co-workers, officials, vendors, and the general public.

6. Education, Experience and Special Requirements

Education/Experience: Requires an Associate’s Degree from an accredited college with major course work in computer science or related disciplines or 3-5 years of direct experience in a Windows networking environment.
Licensing & Certification: Not required, but will be considered.
Special Requirements: A driver’s license valid in the state of New Jersey is required. The applicant must pass a full criminal history investigation such as to certify ability to access confidential State and National police information systems.

The Department of Recreation & Cultural Affairs hires Camp Counselors each year for its Summer Camp Program (complete job description attached above). This program is a 7 week, half day program for South Orange children ages 4 through grade 8. The program begins in late June and ends in mid-August. (Program details are available at www.thebaird.org). Candidates must be at least 16 years of age, attend pre-camp counselor training and be available for the entire 7 weeks of the program. Position:South Orange Community Pool- Manager  
 

The Village of South Orange is seeking a manager for the community pool. Candidates must hold (or obtain) a CPO, CPR/AED and First Aid certifications and posess aquatics, supervisory and administrative experience.  Responsibilities include (but are not limited to) interviewing, hiring and supervision of seasonal staff of over 50, including W.S.I., swim team, lifeguards, maintenance and reception personell. EARLY CHILDHOOD PROFESSIONAL WANTED

 

 The South Orange Summer Playground Program is a half-day, seven week Day Camp program sponsored by the South Orange Dept. of Recreation & Cultural Affairs.  The Department is seeking a Senior Counselor for the Kiddie Camp, its summer day camp program for 3 and 4 year old children.  The Senior Counselor is responsible for planning and organizing daily activities of the campers in cooperation and coordination with the Camp Director. The Senior Counselor is also expected to provide leadership, guidance, direction and oversight of the Junior Camp Counselors assigned to the Kiddie Camp program.  All counselors will work with the same group of campers throughout the summer, traveling with the children each day and participating in all activities.   Activities include swimming, arts and crafts, music, local “field trips”, indoor and outdoor play. 

The ideal candidate will be a college graduate and have a minimum of one year experience working with preschool age children in a classroom setting.  Early Childhood Education degree or equivalent preferred. In addition, candidates should be enthusiastic, responsible, mature, patient, fun, organized and energized.

Applicants must be available to attend pre-camp Counselor Training sessions and work the full camp season, June 28th through August 13th, Monday - Friday, 8:30 am-1:30 pm.

Pay range $12-16 per hour, depending on level of experience and qualifications.

The Village of South Orange is seeking an assistant manager for the community pool. Candidates must posess aquatics, supervisory and administrative experience. Lifeguarding, CPR/AED and First Aid certifications preferred.  Reports directly to pool manager, assisting with all operations and functions of the pool as needed.  The Police Department is currently looking to hire individuals for the position of Crossing Guard in a “fill-in” capacity, with the possibility of being hired on a permanent basis.
