VOTER REGISTRATION

If you will be a new registered voter or have recently moved to South Orange and need to update your voter registration records to be able to vote here in South Orange, Voter Registration application forms are available on-line from the Essex County Clerk’s Office at http://www.essexclerk.com/forms/Voter-Register-Eng-09-08.pdf or at the Village Clerk’s Office.

The Voter Registration Form can also be used for name and address changes.

Completed Voter Registration application forms must be received at the Essex County Clerk's Office for processing.  The Essex County Clerk’s Office cannot accept faxed copies or an electronic transmission of a voter registration form, since your original signature is required.

Voter Registration forms must be received by the Essex County Clerk’s Office at least 21 days prior to the next election in order to be able to vote in that election.

To register to vote in New Jersey you must be:

  • a United States Citizen
  • at least 18 years old by the next election
  • a resident of your home county for 30 days before the election

In New Jersey, any voter can now vote by mail!  You do not need a reason to vote by mail.  Can’t make it to the polls?  Simply vote by mail.

As an Essex County resident you may apply for An “Application for Vote by Mail Ballot” if you are a qualified and registered voter to the Essex County Clerk's Office.  You may download an “Application for Vote by Mail Ballot” at http://www.essexclerk.com/forms/vote-by-mail-application.pdf .  The Essex County Clerk cannot accept faxed or e-mailed copies of the “Application for Vote by Mail Ballot” since your original signature is required.
