Classes and Workshops
ART, MUSIC, DANCE ­ FALL CLASSES FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY!
Many classes in visual arts, music and dance are taught at The Baird by professionals in their respective fields. Following is a sample listing. Book Arts Workshop: Book-in-a-Box
October 16-17, 10:00 am-4:00 pm
Learn the principles of bookbinding and develop basic skills, as you construct a chunky book and build a box to enclose it.

Opening Reception and artist gallery talk: September 19th 1 – 4 P.M.
Using a variety of styles and media with distinctly individual approaches, the artists selected for this exhibit juxtapose imagery or contrast space, scale and color to create their own visual symbolism, evoke emotion, or suggest narrative. The featured artists are Susanna Baker, Jamie Greenfield, Linda Pochesci, Merrill Steiger, and Valery Sutherland. For more information click here.
       
Dreamcatcher Repertory Theater
Multiple Personality Disorder- Saturday, September 25, 8:00 pm
Dreamcatcher’s improvisational comedy troupe is back for another season of spontaneous fun! Bring the whole family and your ideas and help create this unique performance. All tickets $10. For more information click here.
Sports And Fitness

A variety of fall sports and activities are offered by the South Orange Department of Recreation & Cultural Affairs. A brief listing is below. For complete program details and registration information, click here.

  • Fall Baseball: Ages 8-12 (as of April 30, 2011)
  • South Mountain Soccer, Grades 3-8: A limited number of spots are still open in some age groups (registration officially ended on August 1st)
  • Tennis instruction for ages 3 to adult
  • Tae Kwon Do for Beginners: Tuesdays, 4:30 or Thursdays, 4:00
  • Tae Kwon Do for Adults: Tuesdays at 8:00 pm
  • Tae Kwon Do for Special Needs Children: Saturdays 1:00 pm for ages 6-10 and 2:00 pm for ages 11-25
  • Pilates Matwork: Wednesdays at 9:30 am
  • Basketball Skills & Drills: Saturdays beginning September 11th, 10:00 am for Grades 1-2 and 11:15 for Grades 3-5
  • Adult Softball League on Sunday mornings
  • Adult Soccer: Mondays, 7:30 pm
  • Senior Fitness: Wednesdays at 10:45
         

Special Events...

Saturday
September 11th:

Health Fair: 10:00 am-2:00 pm at the Baird Bring the family to this free event that includes health screenings, home testing information, educational materials, children’s ID kits, educational materials and more.

Newcomers Day: 1:00-3:00 pm in Meadowland Park All residents are invited to meet and learn from village officials and staff, civic organizations, committee, board and program representatives. Additional participants include a variety of village service providers.
