This award-winning, energy-efficiency initiative is a grassroots campaign working in communities across New Jersey to spread the message that simple actions can make a big difference when it comes to saving energy and helping the environment.
Project Porchlight has been distributing thousands of free, ENERGY STARŪ qualified, energy-efficient light bulbs through-out the state. On December 6th, 2008, South Orange participated in the Project Porchlight campaign funded by the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (NJBPU) and New Jersey's Clean Energy Program. We thank all who joined us as volunteers.
Here are the numbers:
27 Volunteers distributed 605 Bulbs. This translates to 199.65 tons of CO2 removed from the atmosphere or the equivalent of 34.485 cars removed from the road. And that translates to good work South Orange!
Local girl scouts, boy scouts, parents, students and Villagers volunteered to distribute the energy efficient light bulbs throughout South Orange through the Board of Public Utilities' Project Porchlight campaign.

Project Porchlight was chosen by the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities and New Jersey's Clean Energy Program™ to be funded as a part of the Green New Jersey Resource Team—a new program that will work with community groups to distribute more than 500,000 ENERGY STAR qualified light bulbs and fixtures throughout New Jersey.
