How Do They Do That? ArtStory: A demonstration of artists’ technique
Saturday, December 2, 2017
With Santiago Cohen, Robert Forman, Jan Huling, Deb Mell.
In association with the current Pierro Gallery exhibition, Color Theory
If you ever wondered how artists made multiple impressions of the same image before the time of photography, copy machines and digital printing, you will be fascinated by Santiago Cohen’s technique for making prints the old school way.
First inspired by his mother’s embroidery basket and later informed by close study with the Huichol people of Mexico Robert Forman creates his art by painstakingly gluing down single strands of thread one next to the other.
Jan Huling will be on hand to demonstrate and describe her process, one in which each bead laid down is inspired by the one before it.
Deb Mell takes collecting and gluing to the next level, layering and often embedding each tiny object into a glaze of resin that becomes much, much greater than the sum of its parts.
